We said farewell to the Alliance Factory in Elkhart IN this morning at 0747 hrs and travelled just 12 miles south to Goshen IN and arrived at our next stop, the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds campground. This is where the 2026 Alliance Rally will be held next week. Several of us working the Rally set-up caravanned from the factory to the fairgrounds. Between now and Tuesday several hundred Alliance RV's will be arriving here.
We are here a bit nearly to start the set-up process for the Welcome Event and the Silent Auction which are sponsored by FamAlly Cares Inc.
FamAlly Cares, Inc is dedicated to helping children and families in the Elkhart, Indiana community as well as children and families associated with the larger camping community through various fundraising events. I am proud to be a part of this organization and looking forward to the 2026 Alliance Rally.
Once we arrived at the fairgrounds we set-up our coaches quickly and then Doreen and I cleaned up and headed north into Michigan to Three Rivers meet our daughter Jennifer and her family for lunch.
The roads were busy on this cool but sunny day. There are many Amish in this area and they were traveling in the horse/buggies and bicycles.
After the Alliance Rally we will be heading up to Fort Custer campground in Battle Creek MI so that we can attend grandson Lucas's high school graduation and see him before he leaves for the Army. Mid-June he departs for basic training at Ft Sill OK.
We met at Hank's Tavern on the River and had a nice lunch. It was great to see the Buehner's including James' mother Aileen who is visiting from Alaska.
After lunch we headed back to the fairgrounds where Liberty was waiting for her mom! While we were gone more and more Alliance RV's rolled in with those who are involved with set-up for the Rally. It was great to see more friends from all over the country. We also tuned into both Ankeny grandson's baseball games. Calvin played locally and Daniel and Dan were in the Leavenworth KS area in a tournament.
This evening we participated in a "throw-on". We had never heard this term before connecting up with this group at the first Alliance Rally in 2020. When someone hosts a "throw-on", they provide the grille and you bring whatever meat you want to "throw-on" their grille". Then everyone brings a side dish of some sort to share.
That's it for today. Tomorrow many more coaches will be rolling in for the Rally! The Welcome Event is Tuesday then the actual Rally runs Wednesday-Friday.
