17 May 2025 - Game Day and Down Day

It's almost like being there!  Today was "game day" and it was sort of a "down day" for us in that we did not do any sightseeing or touring.  The Ankeny grandsons each played two games of baseball.  Daniel was on at 0900 hrs, but actually it was 1000 hrs...  So we are right on the dividing line between Eastern Time and Central Time.  From what I can figure, it is in the middle of the northbound lane just on the other side of the fence from the campground. The campground really wanted to emphasize the fact so that we did not try to check in too early or leave too late!  We are so close that none of our devices have detected it.  The cell phones still are showing Central Daylight Time.  The computer, digital photo frame etc keys off the Internet which we get from a cellular device, so it thinks it is in Central Time.  I manually switched the microwave to Eastern Time but I manually told Google Calendars NOT to switch all my events to Eastern.  UGH.   So we are playing games with that continually.

Back to the baseball, Daniel played at (all Central Time) 0900 & 1100.  Calvin played at 1200 and 1600.  The Cubs played at 1320 and Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever played at 1400 hrs!  Our new AT&T device provides 5G data when available so we are getting great speeds and throughput.  The Game Changer signal is crystal clear especially as we cast it to our 50" TV

Both boys played very well.  We watched Daniel pitch four solid innings in the first game and hit another home run one over the center field fence, but I did not capture the video.  Calvin had a couple hits including a double, caught the first game and pitched an inning in their final game, closing it out 16-3.  The Game Changer app provides a game recap, video feed, play by play, a box score and other info.

Here is a snip of the play by play of Daniels homer

This is what the box score looks like

We are so thankful for Game Changer and those who use their own equipment, their data plans and their time to stream it for us and most importantly input all the data throughout the game so we can stay connected with our grand kids games while we are traveling. Thank you Miranda Piepho!

In between games Doreen got us caught up on laundry and I worked on some projects here in the coach.  Grand daughter Lindsey played volleyball in Milwaukee today and we got updates from daughter Jennifer up there.  We enjoyed nice weather, cooler today since that nasty front went through last night. We were saddened to learn of all the damage and those who perished in St Louis and SE Kentucky.   I downloaded Doreen's phone tonight and here are a couple more pictures I found of the incredible dust storm that hit here.  I hope we don't see any more of that:

We have one more day here before we pack up and head northeast to Elkhart IN.  The boys both play again in the morning at 0800 hrs Central Time.  Depending on how they do there will determine when they play again.  We have to venture into town to fill the truck and then return to flush/dump tanks and all the normal pre-departure stuff.

Thanks for tuning in.
