2 May 2025 - Arrived at Stop #11 Griff's Valleyview RV Park

This morning we departed the Crossroads RV Park in Mount Pleasant Iowa a couple days early.  Aos explained last night, originally we were going to stay until Monday.  Then I modified it by one day to depart Sunday morning.  Then after touring around and seeing the sights, it was obvious we were about done sight seeing here.  I called back to Griff's RV Park, our go-to and launch/recovery park at home and unbelievably they had a site for us starting today and departing as scheduled on Monday 12 May.

So we wrapped things up at 0930 hrs and headed what I though was going to be westbound on Highway 34 this morning, but I was not tracking that the Garmin had other ideas.  I'm not sure why, as the Highway 34 route is shorter both distance and time, and there are no weight embargos, hazmat or overhead obstructions.  So the Garmin turned us north on Highway 218 to Iowa City then west on I-80.  No big deal.  Both routes are four lane divided and a nice drive and only a few minutes different in overall travel time.

We drove in rain for about the last 75 miles and stopped once for a potty break near Grinnell.  We rolled into Griff's at 1230 hrs after traveling just 157 miles today, unloading in a light rain.

Site D5 is a back-in site in a circle drive right by the fishing pond, one of our favorite spots.  The back of our coach backs up to near the pond.

We got everything setup here by the pond, and then loaded up the laundry and other items that we wanted to leave home, and headed home to our :sticks and bricks" in Ankeny Iowa, a few miles away from the campground.  While Doreen did a couple loads of laundry I sorted through what mail we have received since we departed on 1 Apr.  I ordered a few things from Amazon while we have been gone this first month and we loaded them up to bring out here to install.

One of my projects involves installing linear actuators on our RV bed.  The mattress sits on a plywood bed that is hinged which provides storage below.  The weight of the plywood and the mattress, even with hydraulic struts, makes it very difficult for Doreen especially to raise it up.  Since I've had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder, I have to be very careful on what I lift and how I lift it.  Linear actuators are electrically powered devices that raise and lower at the touch of the key fob button.
Another project I will be accomplishing is replacing our RV potty.  The toilets in these coaches are really nice, porcelain, but ours could use some relief.  The new ones are elongated bowl and really nice.  This is a Dometic model 320 gravity flush toilet, bone color.  Should look nice.

Also on my list is relocating the tire pressure monitor system repeater.  This device is mounted to the trailer and "repeats" the RF signals from the little transmitters that are on the tires.  These transmitters send pressure and temperature information to a dash display in the truck.  Periodically I lose signal from the trailer spare which is in the far back of the coach.  Moving the repeater should solve that issue. That will require rerouting the DC power that feeds it.

I've got a list of other minor maintenance items to accomplish here, but during this next week I should have plenty of time to accomplish them.  Parts are readily available here also.

Tomorrow and Sunday grandson Calvin plays baseball at a nearby town. so we plan to watch him play.  Liberty will be going along with us.  Grandson Daniel plays in Cedar Rapids Iowa and our son will be accompanying him.  Hopefully we can at least watch his at-bats and if he gets some time on the mound.

Next weekend both of our daughters will be arriving and some of our grandkids from afar, here to attend grand daughter Hailee's high school graduation.  Saturday evening the Clark W. Griswold family (our family!) will celebrate the graduation in style!  Then Monday we depart here and head east towards Illinois and points east.

I am not sure if I will be posting daily here in the next few days as we won't be touring anywhere, but we will see how it goes.  Thanks for tuning in!
