31 May 2025 - Arrived at Fort Custer Campground in Augusta MI + Dinner with Daughter Jennifer

This morning started with a lot of hugs and farewells as our Alliance FamAlly departed from the 2025 Alliance RV Rally at the Elkhart County 4H Fairgrounds campground.  We had a fantastic time but are tired after long days and lots of activities.  We were glad to learn this morning that our money raised amount had increased due to the bidding at last night's closing event, and the new total is $42,287.00.  This is a direct reflection on the generosity of the Alliance owners.  They would give you the shirt off their back, or the dollars out of their wallets!

Doreen and I loitered for a while at the fairgrounds as our travels today were short, just about 80 mile to Fort Custer campground between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek MI.  Their check-in time was 1500 hrs.  I called and our site was unoccupied so they said we could arrive early.

We departed Elkhart at 1206 hrs and we headed north from Indiana into Michigan.

Without stopping, we arrived at Fort Custer Campground at 1352 hrs after driving 80 miles. I had checked-in online, but we were required to purchase an non-resident recreation permit.  Our choice was an annual permit for $41 or individual day permits that we had to purchase each day, so we chose the easier one even though it was a bit more expensive.  Since our campsite is electric only we had to stop and upload potable (that's "po" like potato, not "po" like a flower pot) water into our fresh tank, but just enough for a three night stay.

We made our way to our campsite, which I picked using Google Maps aerial view.  I thought I had picked one that we would have satellite visibility, but a single tree blocked our view.  No problem for just three nights.  This park is very wooded, very rustic.  The good news is my levelers worked first time!  Thank you Lippert!!!

I texted our daughter to let her know we had touched-down here and she said our grandson Lucas was out here running and may stop and see us.  Lucas graduates from high school tomorrow and in a couple weeks he leaves for Army basic training.  We are here for his high school graduation and to see him before he leaves.  Our travels will take us to Fort Sill OK where his basic training is, and his graduation there is at the end of August and we will be there for that!  I would not miss it!  We are so proud of this young man.  He is doing what I did - departing days after high school graduation for basic training.  He will have a blast.  Lucas is a very smart young man and will do outstanding as a 68W (pronounced sixty-eight whiskey) Combat Medic.  HIs goal is to pursue Ranger training and be the best he can be.  I am envious of this young man.  He has his whole life ahead of him and will meet friends for life.   He is laser-focused and will do great things!  And we will be right there to support him.

Not long after setting up our camper there was a knock on the door and it was Lucas.  My picture is not good, but we were very glad to see him!  Anyone know what Doreen's tee shirt means??

Daughter Jennifer invited us over for dinner, so Lucas headed back and we wrapped things up at the camper and headed to Jennifer's house.  They live on an acreage north of Battle Creek.  While son-in-law James grilled dinner, Lucas and sister Lindsey and I went outside and put a few rounds downrange with my Ruger Mark IV Tactical and a Silencerco suppressor!  So much fun and no need for hearing protection.  Our legislators need to get H.R.404 - Hearing Protection Act passed!
We ran out of sub-sonic ammo, so we took the suppressor off and shot Lucas's regular 22LR ammo.

After dinner, Jennifer took us out and introduced us to her "girls", her brood of laying hens.  They are relatively young and have not yet started laying.  They love table scraps of vegetables and they really love water melon!

We thanked Jennifer for dinner and headed back to the campground to let Liberty out, but not before grabbing a selfie and a hug,  We don't see Jennifer and her family that often so we appreciate these moments!

Back at the campground we relaxed a bit and then enjoyed the evening.  It is now 7 minutes past midnight which is typical for my blog completion.  Good night all!  We have a high school mass and graduation to attend tomorrow!

Thanks for tagging along!

30 May 2025 - Leveler Repairs, End of the Silent Auction, Closing Ceremony - Last Night at the Fairgrounds

Last day of the 2025 Alliance RV Rally and I simply ran out of time to edit all the pictures and properly tell this story tonight in detail.  Here is the Cliff's Notes version for now:

- Lippert returned to our coach three times, identified the issue with my levelers and replaced the left center leveler.  We all believe they found the cause of our elusive leveler issues.  Time will tell.

- The silent auction closed and the picture showed $41,000 but we since then it updated to $42,287.00  Holy sch-nikes.  Absolutely awesome!  Our FamAlly has a heart that is huge and generosity that won't quit.

- Our final dinner and closing ceremony was held and FamAlly Cares, Inc presented checks to:

*Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart for $20,000

    * Care Camps (camps for children with cancer), Mark Lemoine for $5000

    * Humane Society of Elkhart County for $2500

    * Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 985, Chaplain Wayne Hawn for $2500

- We gathered around the campfire tonight, shared a beverage or two and bid a fond farewell to our great friends and FamAlly who will departing tomorrow.  We travel north to the Battle Creek MI area and Fort Custer campground to attend grandson Lucas's high school graduation and wish him the best as he departs for Army basic training.

I will try to come back and edit this soon and add pictures.

29 May 2025 - Day 2 of the Rally - That's a Wrap!

Day two of the 2025 Alliance RV Rally started with a continental breakfast for the attendees and then a seminar by Dexter, the company that makes our axles.

We have 7000 lb axles with disc brakes and they covered maintenance and repair.  Recommended service interval is 12 months or 12,000 miles and we have our axles serviced annually including cleaning and repacking the bearings, replacing the seals, and inspection/lubrication of our suspension system.  The axles and suspension get abused continually on our rough roads and the maintenance is crucial.  Just as the seminar was about to end I got a call from Doreen that Lippert was at our site to again work on our levelers.  The technician was back to check the status of the gauge they put on the pump Wednesday after replacing the left front leveler.  I quickly returned to our site and retracted our slide-outs so they could work on the levelers.  According to their gauge the pressure had dropped indicating a leak or a "bypass" of some sort and they determined the next step was to replace the hydraulic pump assembly.

The technician replaced the pump and then re-installed the pressure gauge to again monitor the system pressure for a leak.  More on that later.  This technician is very thorough and we really appreciate it.

After that work was complete Doreen and I stopped by one of the food trucks that are here and grabbed some lunch.  I had a burrito  bowl and Doreen had a fajita I believe.

I made my way to another seminar, this time on the MCD roller shades installed in our coaches.  I am not having any shade issues but my daughter and son-in-law are on their Alliance 390MP, which is the big brother of ours.  The MCD seminar was very interesting as they explained how they work and how to adjust/repair them.  It was obvious from what they said that our daughter likely has a broken spring in her rear shade.  The representative has a stock of parts here and they provide them at no cost to us!

A bad spring (top) and a good spring (bottom)

A new replacement spring from MCD

After the seminar and connecting with MCD for the parts I took advantage of an opportunity to fill a zip-lok bag with replacement hardware of all sorts for our coaches.  There are many different lengths, colors and types of fasteners on our fifth wheels and Alliance provided boxes of these different fasteners for us.

While I was finishing up in the main hall, back at our camper Doreen cleaned and prepared a variety of vegetables for a relish tray for the potluck dinner tonight.

Before leaving the main hall I checked in with our team heading up the silent auction, and the donations continue and the numbers continue to climb.

Our potluck dinner was amazing as usual.  The variety of food provided by our Ally's was awesome.  They processed tables by a color dot in the center and our table was way down the list.  So we waited quite a while, but no one expired waiting for nourishment!  Finally we were called, and we all returned with full plates!

After dinner we moved towards the event hall for margarita night sponsored by our Texas Ally's, and casino night.  We used "Brady Bucks" that were given our in our welcome packets that we exchanged for poker chips and played with. They hired a company with professional dealers and equipment, so we had real blackjack tables, craps tables, etc.  I played blackjack for a while and needed to be heading back to the camper to watch our grandson's baseball game so I finally went "all-in" with about $475 and lost.  As we departed the event hall the auction totals continued to climb.

Reminder, everyone, everywhere can bid on this online silent auction!  All the proceeds are for a great cause - FamAlly Cares, used to support our scholarships, the Humane Society, the Boys and Girls Club of Elkhart, the VFW and other worthwhile charities. https://event.gives/famally/items

The Lippert pressure gauge shows a drop in pressure so even with a new pump we still have a leak somewhere,  Hopefully they can isolate that early tomorrow.

Doreen and I headed back to our camper for the evening so we could watch (via Game Changer) our grandson Daniel, who just finished his 8th grade year, start as the Varsity catcher for Grand View Christian Varsity Thunder baseball team.  Daniel and his team did awesome and won their game against Greene County Varsity 4-0,  Daniel did not get anything to hit at the plate unfortunately but did walk a couple times and was solid behind the plate as expected.  Wow, what a memorable day for Daniel and his parents AND his very proud grandparents in Goshen IN!!  Thank you Game Changer for facilitating our participation!

Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day of the Rally and there is a full agenda.  In addition to that we will be making preparations to pull chocks on Saturday and head north to our next destination, Ft Custer near Battle Creek MI

28 May 2025 - Day 1 of the Rally in the Books

Wow, what a day!  The Alliance 2026 Rally commenced, starting with a full breakfast and then the Alliance Team Welcome and Rally Kickoff.  Rachel Ellis and our FamAlly Cares board presented two $1000 scholarships.

Elijah Page winner of the $1000 Jim Caldwell Memorial Scholarship

Ava Leslie winner of the $1000 FamAlly Cares Scholarship

The Alliance leadership team answered questions and provided information about their company and the brand.  Alliance has 910 team members.  They have 250 dealers in North America and they have sold over 20,000 coaches to date and over 700 across North America so far just this month.  The 2024 Rally had 320 coaches and this year they are up to 360.

After the Rally kickoff, there were all kinds of events going on, but the weather did not cooperate so well as the rain slowed things down a bit.  Doreen and I took the opportunity to get a few things done including making a grocery store run to replenish the fridge and pantry.  Thursday night is the Rally Potluck and Doreen got the supplies she needed to prepare.  I spent too much time on the phone with Western Digital and Netgear trying to resolve and issue I am having with a new cloud drive.

This evening we attended an Alliance-provided dinner and then everyone gathered for the annual Rally group photo using a drone.  I do not have a copy of it yet, but I'm sure it will be awesome!

After the photo we headed to the Event Hall to look over the silent auction items and the raffle items. As mentioned before, this year the auction is on-line and it is live now.  Anyone can bid and if they win the items will be shipped to them no charge (except alcohol - in-person only). All proceeds go towards FamAlly Cares. To register, view and bid, text FamAlly to 843-606-5995

Then we sampled some wine in an event that paralleled last night's bourbon tasting.

We brought the night to a close around the campfire with friends and a sampling of bourbon!  Many others stopped by as they cruised around on their golf carts.

We have a full day again tomorrow as we open day 2 of the 2025 Alliance RV Rally!
