16 Aug 2025 - Detweiler Amish Stote

Today we drove about 30 miles north to the Detweiler Amish Store.  This was recommended by our campground owner as a place to visit on Saturday, as they are known for their baked goods especially Saturday mornings.

There must be a large Amish population in the area as we saw many horse and buggies on the country roads.  It was a scenic drive through the rural area and soon we arrived at the store.

As expected they had a large display of wood items for sale they had produced such as lawn furniture.  The lighthouses caught Doreen's eye, but logistically we did not want to haul something like this on the rest of our trip!  These items were adjacent to their hardware/homeware store.

Next door they have a grocery store where they sell edible items such as breads, spices, meats, cheeses, etc.  The prices were very reasonable and Doreen loaded up on spices!  It was about 1100 hrs and their bread products were mostly gone so we figured the locals get here early and buy them.  Back to the spices, they had a really good selection.  <These first two pictures were trashed by the transfer process>

Cilantro, pizza seasoning, taco seasoning, oregano leaves, ranch dressing mix,
vegetable dip mix, and a jar of hot pickled Brussel spouts for me!!

That's about it for today.  We are done cavin'.  One thing led to another and we did not make it down to Bowling Green and the Corvette Museum today.  Tomorrow is our last day here and we planned to do laundry, replenish groceries, fuel the truck, flush/drain tanks, stow hose etc etc and make preparations to depart here Monday morning.  You know the routine.

So while we are here in Kentucky, our oldest daughter Michelle and most of her family is in Las Vegas celebrating our oldest grandson Joe's 21st birthday!  They have been sending pictures of their adventures and we have been trying to follow along.  I Venmo's Michelle some money and Joe played a slot machine for Doreen.  He won some and lost some and ultimately the machine won!  That's the way it goes, right?!
Joe playing the Wizard of Oz slot machine for Doreen!

Daughter Michelle thinks she is Ellen from Las Vegas Vacation!

Dan and his family are driving home today from their Florida vacation.
As I write this they are about an hour out of home.

Jennifer and her family, minus Lucas, are home tending to their chickens and making preparations to attend Lucas' basic military training graduation in another week!  Michelle and Dan will be there too!
