4 Jun 2025 - NSTR Day Before the Rally

Kind of a laid-back day here and that is not at all bad. It is nice to wind down after the national Rally.  This morning we took care of a few tasks around here and then spent some time trying to plan out the events of the Michigan Rally. We figured out what was happening each day and what resources we needed.  We need a potluck item, a couple cans of vegetables to add to the Hobo Stew for tomorrow night, something to bring to the group breakfast, and finally something to bring to the auction. We made a list and then headed into town to the local grocery store.  It had a really good selection and reasonable prices.  While there I noticed a whiskey that I had tried before, Traverse City Whiskey that is cherry infused, so we brought a bottle back to share..

Back at the campground the sun started to appear through the fog/smoke, so we got out the lawn chairs and I hopped on another pending task - retorquing the leveling leg bolts.  Lippert had switched out two of my leveling legs and I needed to get a torque wrench on the attachment bolts to make sure they were tight.  Good thing I did because two of the six on the front jack were loose!  Not good folks.
With owning an RV, a torque wrench is your friend.  If you don't have one you need to get one and learn how to use it, and then USE IT!  We regularly check the torque on pinbox bolts, suspension wet bolts, leveling leg bolts and wheel lug nuts.  Alliance publishes a torque "cheat sheet" that has all the proper torque specs for these bolts/nuts and it is pretty easy to do, but you have to make the effort to do it!  So after retorquing those bolts I also cleaned all traces of hydraulic fluid from around the hydraulic fittings on the legs they changed to easily detect any future leaks.

Maintenance done we tuned in Game Changer and watched our grandson Daniel's team play a  couple baseball games.  As I explained before, he is just coming out of 8th grade and he has been asked to play Junior Varsity consistently, and dress Varsity.  We've seen him play one Varsity game as catcher so far and tomorrow night he is starting as their pitcher!  What an incredible honor as an 8th grader to be asked by the coach to play Junior Varsity.  What a really great honor as an 8th grader to be asked to dress Varsity and occasionally play, but what an outstanding honor to be asked to start as the Varsity pitcher!  I know dad (our son Dan) has had a pep talk with Daniel about relaxing, slowing down and hitting his spots.  He has a great defensive team backing him up, so all he has to do is get it across the plate, which he surely will. Daniel delivers good velocity and has been consistent as far as his control.  He has good motion on his ball and can bring a good change-up.  We are super excited to see him pitch tomorrow night!!!

Later we headed out on a walk about the campground with Liberty.  This is really a nice campground.  Very well maintained and nice amenities.  The scenery is beautiful!

The picture below is a retro camper which they have several assuming for rent.

Indoor meeting room we might need to use if the weather does not cooperate for our rally!

Beautiful pool that has "cold" written all over it LOL.  Notice no one is in there!

Pickle ball, basketball, and shuffle board areas

As the day went on a few more Alliance coaches rolled in.  We talked with a couple from South Dakota that are camped right across from us that we had met at the National Rally.  At the gas station today there was another Ally that we have known for years.  It is really a small world.  We really enjoy meeting up with friends from all over the United States and Canada.

As I write this, Liberty had to go potty so I let her out and discovered a Gator on our steps!  We've been Gator'd!  That is a first for us!  Gator's are given similar to how ducks are given for Jeep owners. Ducks are given to Jeep owners as part of a tradition called "Jeep Ducking," where one Jeep owner leaves a rubber duck on another Jeep as a random act of kindness and appreciation. Gators as in Alligator as in Ally (Alliance) Gator and given in the same fashion.  This one came from the "Albright Family".  WE met Russell Albright at the National Rally.  Thanks for the gator, Russell!

That's it for today.  It was a good day and more to come as the rally kicks off tomorrow afternoon. More Allies will roll in including our friends Mike and Rachel Ellis from Arkansas!
