3 Jun 2025 - Arrived at Stop #17 Starlight Campground & RV Park in Mancelona MI

This morning we broke camp and after a short stop at the dump station to empty our tanks, at 0900 hrs we headed out of Ft Custer Campground.  We zig-zagged north and west to get to Route 131 where we headed north all the way to Mancelona MI. Doreen mentioned several times how beautiful the drive was and how the scenery reminded her of our many trips through northern Maine, except we had a lot more pine trees up there.

We use GPS coordinates for all of our travels as we have been led astray by navigating to addresses so many times.  I noticed our destination was longitude 44.900543 and I remembered from a previous trip through Michigan that we crossed the 45th parallel so it appears to be north of our campground.  We will seek that out and take a picture again.  Half way from the equator to the North Pole!

A short drive through Mancelona and just east of town, at 1314 hrs and 216 miles later,  we arrived at the Starlight Campground & RV Park.  We are here five nights to attend the 3rd annual 2025 Alliance RV Michigan Summer FamAlly Rally.  The actual rally runs 5-8 June so we are here a bit early to see a few local sights.  Doreen hopes to head over and seek out some more Petosky stones!

You can see some of the other Alliance coaches in the background behind ours.

We are not the only ones arriving early.  Tonight Doreen counted 11 Alliance coaches.  I'm not sure how many are expected, but we will have a good time with whomever shows up!  Many we have just seen at the national rally in Goshen and at the Elkhart Campground pre-rally before that!

That's it for tonight, except I need to brag on our grandson Jon in Oak Creek WI.  Tonight he received an award for completing an "Emerging Leaders" program.  Less than 10% of their Jellystone campground employees get selected to be a part of this.  Jon will be a senior next year and is working hard to complete his college degree while he attends high school and will be actively involved in a work-study program next fall.  His senior year he will be carrying 18 credit-hours!  He loves welding and wants to receive more training in that field!  Good job Jon!
