Today we moved to our next stop, Fort Leonard Wood Army Base south of St Robert MO. When I made our reservations they assigned us site #1. Check-in was supposed to be no earlier than 1600 hrs and check-out at Branson is no later than 1100 hrs. The problem is it is a short travel day, only about 125 miles! So we delayed our departure until 1050 hrs and took our time getting to Fort Leonard Wood.
I called the Outdoor Recreation Office here several times today but never got an answer. All indications were the office should be open Mon-Fri 0900-1700. I left a voice mail on their other number, but again, no response. So we pressed ahead with one stop at a rest stop for a potty break and arrived at 1328 hrs.
There were several sites open but site #1 was occupied. They don't have a camp host, so no one on-site to work issues. We talked with another couple that were preparing to depart. They were here attending a military graduation and paid for an extra night but were going to go ahead and depart since graduation got over early. So they said we could have their site, We will work out the snafu later. After they left we pulled in there site and unhooked from the truck. We got the coach all set up and then I drove to the Outdoor Rec office and their sign explained the issue. Today is Monday. No problem. We will work it out tomorrow. We will be here for four nights.
The FamCamp here is fairly new. I believe it was built in 2021. There are only 12 full hookup 50A sites. There is no bathroom/shower facility, no laundry on-site, no playground, and no sewer dump other that at each site. The sites are very wide and paved. We use our own shower and bathroom, and there is likely a laundry here on post somewhere, so it has what we need especially for just four nights! We have a list of things we want to see and do here. There are several military museums here on post and some things to see in the local area such as an old stagecoach stop museum, a rock shaped like a frog and a fudge shop in a nearby town called Uranus! Yep, you can't make this stuff up!
Today is Liberty's 12th birthday, our Schnauzer-Poodle - called a Schnoodle! She spent most of it sleeping but made a few laps around the campground here checking out the new surroundings. Liberty seems to love traveling and camping and really loves her mom! But traveling and camping can be exhausting!
