13 Apr 2025 - Last Day at Yukon OK; Oklahoma City Gun Show

Our last day in the Oklahoma City area, and it warmed up to a balmy 90F.  It's been a while since we have seen those temps.  As I write this at 1942 hrs it is still 82F.  We got up this morning early to catch grandson Calvin playing an 0800 hrs baseball game against a AAA team from the Omaha NE area.  His team lost both games today but they played well.  Calvin pitched and was throwing strikes, not walking anyone but the Omaha team was just hitting the ball consistently.

We always enjoy "news from home" while we are on the road.  Friday our grand daughter Hailee had her senior prom and we got some nice pictures from Ankeny!

No pictures but our daughter Michelle who lives south of Milwaukee Wisconsin got their camper out of it's winter slumber and brought it back home as they will start their weekend camping soon.

Daughter Jennifer near Battle Creek Michigan, who lives on an acreage,  prep'ed their coup for some new chickens!

Later in the morning we headed out to the fairgrounds to visit the Oklahoma City Gun Show.

The show was held in the Expo Hall which is pretty big.  There were a lot of dealers with their firearms, knives and accessories on display, but I thought the selection was a bit limited.  The Beretta M9 (92FS) 9mm sidearm, same as the pistol I carried in Iraq was not to be found anywhere in the building.  I thought that was unusual but in discussion with some of the dealers they reminded me that this show followed last weekend's Wanenmacher's Tulsa Gun Show, which is touted as the "largest gun show in the world".  So a lot of the dealer's inventories were pretty picked over.  I picked up a couple 9mm magazines but other than that I did not find anything I wanted at a price I was willing to pay.  I still enjoyed looking at some great, historic firearms, some dating back to the 1800's.  I really like the old military weapons such as the M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, the old 1911's etc.

On the way back to the campground we stopped for fuel and thanks to the Gas Buddy app, I found diesel for   $2.879 just a few blocks from the campground.  That is the cheapest so far on this trip.  We filled up in preparation for tomorrow's departure.

This afternoon I worked around here a bit, adjusting all the tire pressures, dumping and flushing tanks, stowing hoses, and making preparations to bug out tomorrow morning.

Our next stop on this journey is three nights in Joplin MO and we have a pretty good list of things to see and do there.  My only previous experiences at Joplin involved scuba diving at the 210 foot deep Oronogo lead mine which closed after the 2011 Joplin EF5 tornado came through, damaging nearly 8,000 buildings, and of those, destroying over 4,000 houses.   The owner, Captain John, apparently had a heart condition which may have been the main reason for it closing.  Another rumor was that the lake water (lead mine) was leaking into the city's drinking water.  We will probably do a drive-by for a picture while we are in town.

So, about 225 miles NE of here via Tulsa tomorrow and we will land at Joplin.  Thanks for tagging along!
