10 Apr 2025 - Arrived at "The Campground Collective" in Yukon OK

We pulled chocks at Liberal KS this morning at 0900 hrs and headed southwest towards Oklahoma City, our next stop.  We had a lot of wide open spaces and prairieland on the way down and I could not help but think about those who migrated west to settle new land back in the late 1800's.  What went through their minds as they traversed this barren land?  I guess the good thing is that the land is relatively flat.

Oil well pumpjacks sprinkled throughout the landscape

We passed an interesting place called Fort Supply that I need to research more.  It is obviously closed and it looked like there might have also been a prison there at one time.  We stopped in Woodward for fuel and potty break and again later for just a break, and then landed in Yukon OK just west of Oklahoma City at 1400 hrs after traveling 250 miles today.  I mistakenly said we were camping at Mustang OK because the (previous) name of the RV park here is or was Mustang Run RV Park.  Well, they were apparently sold last year and it is now called The Campground Collective.

The "being sold" part was good news to me as I always thought the previous management was less than friendly.  We have stayed here five or six times in the past years and the attitudes were always the same.  But today we were greeted with a smile by a very pleasant young man that was very helpful.

The grassy areas are manicured and all of the concrete pads edged very precisely.  Everything is clean and well maintained.  The pool was freshly painted and filled and they are letting the chemicals stabilize and it will be opened soon.

I called then about a water leak from their backflow prevention device and I no more than hung up than their maintenance person was there to correct it.  Later we received a text that they were having a campfire with complimentary s'mores this evening so we went up for that.

We are here for four nights and have no firm plans yet.  Unfortunately their minor league baseball team is out of town the entire time we are here.  We really enjoy heading down to the Bricktown area where the ballpark is located.  One thing we will do is to visit Tinker Air Force Base and check out their FamCamp.  We usually don't stay there because they do not take reservations.  As mentioned before, we have visited the Oklahoma City area many times before so we have seen most of the big venues.  As Doreen works the list, we may visit the banjo museum, telephone museum, Arbuckle Mountain Original Fried Pies, Cattlemen's Steak House and ??  I need to check out the Man vs Food website to see where he has been here :-)
