20 Apr 2025 - Last Day at Branson; Happy Easter; Storm Evac Again

Hope everyone had a happy Easter.  The weather started out really nice here.  We took Liberty on a nice walk around the campground and then headed out to replenish the pantry and fridge.  We also stopped for fuel in preparation for our departure in the morning and found diesel for $3.09.  We picked up Easter lunch at Arby's on the way back and then came back and unloaded the groceries and lunch.

We have been tracking the weather forecast closely every day, and again today lots of rain is coming so after lunch I went outside and took care of our pre-departure tank dumping/flushing and hose storage.  With the impending weather we figured we better get Liberty out on a walk, and we met a really nice couple from Hannibal MO who were on their maiden voyage camping here with their kids.  They manufacture and market salsa and barbecue sauces in many of the same stores we shop such as HyVee, Fareway and Menards, and they gave use some sample bottles to try!

The rain started and the radar was not looking good so we made preparations to button-up the coach and bug-out.

The storm front on the left side of this picture seemed to be moving north so we were not sure how much of it we would get, but it held it's course and moved right in.  They were forecasting wind, rain and possibly hail at this point and there was no mention of tornadic activity in this front.  We pulled the slides in, lowered the satellite dish and evacuated to the truck. Our hard-billet shelter is the bathrooms just 75 meters or so away if needed.   Within an hour from the picture on the left the storm was upon us, picture on the right.  Again, the campground was texting us regularly.  The weather radio was going off.  The cell phones were chirping, and now the phones were ringing from automated warning calls.  It looked like a short duration event as narrow as it was, so we rode it out in the truck.

The rain came and the wind blew.  We had gusts to 40 mph, which is not a concern with either the truck or RV. The bigger concern is falling limbs, other peoples stuff that they failed to secure, flying around the campground, and the loss of power.

Well everything came out just fine and we moved back into the coach for the evening.   The only evidence of the storm inside was some rain that came through the bedroom window and created a puddle on top of the hinged-lid dresser.

The ducks and geese were enjoying the additional puddles!

Well that is it from Branson.  We had hoped to get to a couple more venues today but Easter weekend impacted that a bit plus we would not want to be out and about with the weather and the dog in the RV.

Tomorrow we will take our time getting out of here and heading north to Springfield and then east to St Robert and south a few miles to Fort Leonard Wood, our next stop.  Overall travels tomorrow should be just 125 miles.  Check-out here is 1100 hrs and check-in there is 1600 hrs, so we are going to have to really take our time!  We plan to call them in the morning and see if we can slip in there early.  Four nights should give us plenty of time to see what is on our list there, including Uranus Fudge LOL.

Thanks for tagging along!
