4 Sep 2025 - Arrived at Twin Lakes RV Park in Cumming GA

This morning right at 0900 hrs we departed Shibby RV Living in Fountain Inn SC and made our way down I-85 towards Atlanta.  Not too far out of town we turned off and drove north to Cumming GA and the Twin Lakes RV Park.  We arrived at 1156 hrs after driving just 149 miles.

We "checked" in quickly, literally!  This is one of two campgrounds we have stayed that do not take credit cards due to the fees, so I wrote a check!  I think we have had this pad of checks for several years now.  We might write one or two in a year normally!

So why Cumming GA?  Well, an Air Force comrade and dear friend Brad Herren, who we served with in Maine back in the 70's, lives in Big Canoe GA, not too far north of here.  So we plan to get together with Brad and his wife Beth while we are here.  If you have followed our travels in years past his name may sound familiar.  We visited their house in Big Canoe and went "Jeeping" in the woods.  We also visited Amicalola Falls and other sights around Big Canoe.  We then got together with them in Asheville NC and another year in Chattanooga TN.  We also camped with them in Maine in 2016 and at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs CO.  There have likely been other intersections that slip my mind.  Since then Brad and Beth have sold their RV so they won't be camping with us here, but we will still see them.  Previously Brad introduced me to a very flavorful bourbon from a distillery that is right here in Cumming called "Legends".  I starred it on my Google Map for future reference and when this trip was bringing us near here it was a perfect match!  So Saturday Brad & Beth will drive down and we will do a tour and tasting at Legends Distillery!  Also, Brad invited us to join them on the lake Sunday!  Should be a great time!

Twin Lakes RV Park was chosen due to it's location and proximity to Legends Distillery and to Brad & Beth.  It appears to be primarily seasonal campers here.  We got a nice site on the end, so no one on one side of us and the other side is vacant.  The sites are back-in 30/50 amp full hookup.  We are thankful for the privacy and plenty of room to park the big ol' brown truck.

The campground is located on a pair of lakes (or large ponds).  No boats are allowed but you can catch and release fish I believe.  I did not even bring my pole this years so we won't be doing any fishing here.  We took a walk after dinner to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Looking across the lake with our campground in the background.

Beautiful reflections in the smaller lake.

Water foul out for an evening cruise!

After getting settled we drove a few miles to the local Kroger store to replenish the pantry and fridge a bit.  I have also been on the hunt for boiled peanuts.  I want to find a roadside stand selling fresh ones, but in the mean time I heard they sold them in cans, so we look and sure enough there they were !

Of course I picked a can of the spicy ones, and as soon as we were back at the coach and had everything put away I had to pop them open!  I assumed they would be shelled but NO, they were still in the shell!  Awesome!

No, I did not eat the whole can!  I saved about half for tomorrow LOL!  I still want to find a roadside stand for some fresh ones before we get too far away from here.

So we got all settled in here at Twin Lakes and grilled some pork loins for tonight, and burgers for tomorrow along with taters and onions.  Doreen broke out a bottle of wine that we got in Paducah KY some where along the line and we enjoyed the evening.  Our new lawn chairs have a built-in holder for a stemmed wine glass!!  Someone was thinking!

Tomorrow Doreen and I plan to visit the Dahlonega Gold Museum in Dahlonega GA, about 32 miles from here. Maybe we will see a boiled peanut stand on our road trip LOL
